The
Oregon Arts Commission has been committed to building strong arts education
programs in our schools, believing that: the arts are essential to the vitality
and quality of life in Oregon schools and communities; the arts are basic in
a complete education; the arts are especially powerful in the education of children
with special needs; the rich and varied cultural resources and diversity of
communities in Oregon expand the walls of every classroom; arts education addresses
cultural inclusiveness and diversity, and ensures preservation of Oregon's cultural
heritage; and there is an immediate and pressing need for greater investment
in and access to arts education programs. The Commission provides services in
arts education through its Arts Education Coordinator and in the production
of a variety of resources to assist in undertaking arts education efforts.
The Oregon Arts Commission is a partner in the Oregon Teacher Arts Institute, a six-day professional development opportunity for elementary classroom teachers. Go to: Oregon Alliance for Arts Education for more information.
