Section Highlights

The Oregon Arts Commission supports activities that promote arts education opportunities and life-long arts learning for Oregonians.

The Annual Arts Education Congress is a yearly event bringing together diverse stakeholders in arts education to discuss critical issues facing the field.  News about the event, as well as a discussion forum for sharing information and resources, is available on the Congress Website.

Grants for Arts Learning

Arts Learning Resources
As the Arts Commission's third major goal (Increase arts education opportunities for all Oregonians), the Oregon Arts Commission has been committed to building strong arts education programs in our schools.

Poetry Out Loud
The Oregon Arts Commission, with support from the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Poetry Foundation, announces “Poetry Out Loud,” a national initiative that will involve students in the study and public recitation of classic poetry.

To register your school winner for participation in the state contest, return the State Contest Registration form by Friday, February 26, 2010.

Complete the 2010 School Application to indicate your school’s intent to participate in the contest.

You may also enjoy this student-produced video by POL participants at Lake Oswego High School. It can be used as a recruitment tool and discussion starter in the classroom.

The Poetry Out Loud: Oregon Curriculum Guide is designed to help teachers integrate Poetry Out Loud into existing school curriculum, addressing Oregon-specific Content and Performance Standards in English/Language Arts, and the Arts.
