Current Opportunities For Public Artists

Current Opportunities

University of Oregon, Ford Alumni Center
Eugene, Oregon

The Cheryl Ramberg Ford & Allyn Ford Alumni Center will be a dynamic new point of entry to the University of Oregon campus. The 60,000 square-foot Center will provide event and gathering space for alumni, campus activities, prospective student tours, and the community. Situated on a large plaza adjacent to the new Arena, the Alumni Center has been designed by TVA Architects and Opsis Architecture, Portland.

The Alumni Center’s design is modern, clean and technology-rich. The Art Selection Committee is interested in complimenting this aesthetic with fine art which shows the hand of the artist in the materials. Works should tell a story that relates to history or place, through materials or a regional sensibility. The work is expected to be of lasting and durable materials. The main location identified for art through this invitation to artists is the first floor fireplace hearth. The hearth is a key gathering point, and presents an opportunity for site-specific wall-mounted work relating architecturally to the location. Milled cedar from a fallen tree on campus may be available for an artist to work with, although other materials are welcome.

The Committee is only interested in reviewing artists' past work. A short list of finalists may be invited to interview or submit detailed proposals for which they will be paid a design fee.

Budget: The total budget for artwork for this opportunity is $25,000.

Deadline: Complete applications must be received in the Oregon Arts Commission office no later than 5pm Friday, March 12, 2010.

Eligibility: Open to all artists and teams.
