The Oregon Arts Commission announces the availability of Arts Build Communities technical assistance consultants to assist communities in linking local arts resources with community development initiatives. Consultants are skilled in a variety of areas including cultural planning, facility development, business development, public art planning, partnership development, community planning and design, landscape design, folklore and story gathering, development of cultural inventories, and education and youth development.
The assistance is available to and restricted to communities that have been underserved by arts services. These include communities isolated by geography, stressed urban neighborhoods, as well as communities, both rural and urban, with a history of powerful social, cultural or economic barriers. The Arts Commission seeks to work in communities that demonstrate immediate capacity to utilize Arts Build Communities technical assistance.
Technical assistance is provided at no cost to communities. More information on this program can be found on the Oregon Arts Commission's website: www.oregonartscommission.org or by calling Bill Flood, (503) 986-0083.
The Oregon Arts Commission provides leadership, funding and arts programs through its grants, special initiatives and services. Nine Commissioners, appointed by the Governor, determine arts needs and establish policies for public support of the arts. The Arts Commission became part of the Oregon Economic and Community Development Department in 1993, in recognition of the expanding role the arts play in the broader social, economic and educational arenas of Oregon communities.
