The third annual Oregon Teacher Arts Institute will be held July 20-25, 2003 at Western Oregon University. The Institute, a collaboration of the Oregon Arts Commission, Oregon Alliance for Arts Education and the Oregon Department of Education, is designed to strengthen elementary classroom teachers’ arts skills and capacity to teach the arts across Oregon. A week long all expense paid residential training, the Institute will provide opportunities for up to 120 elementary classroom teachers to become equipped with content knowledge and instructional strategies that support the Oregon Arts Content Standards. Teacher selection and participation is determined on a regional basis with as many schools and districts represented as possible. Applications are distributed by the Department of Education and will arrive at elementary schools and districts in early March. Applications are also available through the Arts Commission’s Regional Arts Education Network.
