The Oregon Arts Commission has announced a total of $265,000 in grant awards in its Arts Services and Arts Education grant programs. "These projects demonstrate the strengths of arts organizations in Oregon communities,"said Cynthia Addams of Keizer, newly elected Chair of the Arts Commission. "The Commission is pleased to be a partner in these programs that provide such excellent benefit to Oregon and its people."

"The arts can be pivotal to community development in Oregon, and these grant awards recognize the significant services arts groups provide in the broader social and educational arenas of their communities,"said Christine D'Arcy, director of the Oregon Arts Commission. "From Pendleton to Oregon City, Madras to Medford, more Oregon communities are looking to the arts to strengthen community ties and capacity. Our arts education grantees support the arts as a powerful link to educational achievement and overall learning, contributing to Oregon's development of a 21st century workforce."

A total of 51 applications requesting over $587,000 were submitted to the Arts Commission's Arts Education and Arts Services funding programs. In reviewing grant requests, the Arts Commission reaffirmed its intent that all Oregon communities have access to programs and services which: 1) encourage all people to participate in arts activities; and, 2) enhance the capacity of artists to contribute to the economic, social, and cultural well-being of their communities. Oregon Arts Education Grants support activities that promote the arts as an integral part of K-12 education.
