The fourth annual Oregon Teacher Arts Institute will be held July 17-22, 2005 at Western Oregon University. The Institute, a collaboration of the Oregon Arts Commission, Oregon Alliance for Arts Education and the Oregon Department of Education, is designed to strengthen elementary classroom teachers' arts skills and capacity to teach the arts across Oregon. A week long residential training, the Institute will provide opportunities for up to 120 elementary classroom teachers to become equipped with content knowledge and instructional strategies that support the Oregon Arts Content Standards. Teacher selection and participation is determined on a regional basis with as many schools and districts represented as possible. Teams of teachers from schools are encouraged. Tuition for the Institute is $250, and includes all workshops, lodging, and meals. Some scholarships are available. Contact the Oregon Alliance for Arts Education, 503-587-0220. Applications are distributed by the Department of Education and have been distributed to elementary schools and districts. Applications are also available through the Arts Commission's Oregon Arts Education Network.
