Community Development

Community Development activities support the arts as a vital part of Oregon communities with grants, networking, and convenings.

Creative Capacity Initiative

This new capacity-building initiative of the Oregon Arts Commission is designed to help arts organizations of Oregon become stronger, more effective, and more nimble as they move into the future. The initiative commenced on September 30, 2009. In addition to the convening; OAC is holding regional workshops and facilitating webinars, and has launched an online learning community.

Governor's Arts Awards

Oregon's Governor's Arts Awards were established in 1977 to recognize individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the cultural life of Oregon. From early brief presentations in the Capitol Rotunda in Salem to multi-media productions celebrating the award recipients in cultural facilities in Portland, Eugene and Newport, the Governor's Arts Awards are an annual celebration of the arts in the state.

Art in the Governor's Office

Since 1975, the Art in the Governor's Office Program has featured exhibitions of the work of professional Oregon artists in the Governor's historic ceremonial office in Salem. The exhibits give participating artists the opportunity to showcase their work in the stately atmosphere of the State Capitol. Artists from throughout the state are featured in these special exhibitions.

The Oregon Folklife Program

From 1977-2009, statewide services supporting folklife and traditional arts in Oregon were provided under the aegis of several organizations, first through the Oregon Arts Commission, then Lewis and Clark College, and then the Oregon Historical Society.
