The Governor's Arts Awards are a partnership between the Office of the Governor and the Arts Commission to recognize and honor individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the arts in Oregon.
In 2015, when the Inland Musicians became one of the first recipients of an Oregon Arts Commission Small Operating Grant, the ensemble’s future became more stable. “The $1,000 we received allowed us to continue to offer free concerts to our audiences,” says programs director Lori Johnson. “We continue to reach communities that rarely have access to fine arts.”

Attendance has increased so dramatically in the 16 years the group has been visiting that, though tickets are free, attendees must register in advance to attend. In fact, the two-day event has become a holiday festival, with local merchants hosting booths outside the community center.
A new partnership between The Oregon Community Foundation and the Oregon Arts Commission will provide an additional Career Opportunity Grant funding opportunity for literary and performing arts artists this spring. Applicants may apply for up to $1,500 from the Arts Commission and up to an additional $7,500 from The Oregon Community Foundation. The partnership mirrors a similar collaboration between the Arts Commission and The Ford Family Foundation for grants to visual artists.
Regional Poetry Out Loud competitions held Saturday, March 5, in Beaverton, Medford and Salem identified the nine Oregon high school students who will compete for the state title at Willamette University on Saturday, March 12. A two-year pilot grant program designed to provide operating support to arts organizations with budgets under $150,000 is now open at the Oregon Arts Commission. Applications for the first round of funding will be accepted until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16, at http://oregon.culturegrants.org/. Eligibility is limited to organizations that have operated as an IRS recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit for two years or more.
National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) Chairman Jane Chu has announced 69 Our Town awards totaling almost $5 million in the program's fifth year of funding, including a $75,000 to the city of Milton-Freewater in Oregon. The NEA received 275 applications for Our Town this year and will make grants ranging from $25,000 to $200,000.
In the second major grant announcement of fiscal year 2015, the NEA will make 13 awards to nonprofit art and design organizations in Oregon totaling $1,059,700. This includes $739,700 awarded through a state partnership agreement with the Oregon Arts Commission for programs that benefit state residents.
In the second of three rounds of 2015 Career Opportunity Grants, the Oregon Arts Commission and The Ford Family Foundation have awarded $50,051 to 23 artists for career development projects. The awards include $32,701 from the Oregon Arts Commission and $17,350 in supplemental funding for eight artists through a partnership with The Ford Family Foundation. Individual grants range from $700 to $6,670.
