Richard Thompson’s “Paintings from 97114” to be exhibited in the Governor’s Office Dec. 1 - Jan. 31

Salem, Oregon – Dayton artist Richard Thompson will exhibit “Paintings from 97114” in the Governor’s Office of the Capitol Building in Salem from Dec. 1 to Jan. 31, 2018.

In 2011, following a 30- year academic and professional career in New Mexico, Texas and New York, Thompson returned to live and paint on what was once his family farm just outside of Dayton, Oregon. The area of farms and orchards is defined by the zip code 97114, hence the title for this exhibition. The agricultural landscape outside Thompson’s studio door – with its spread of fields bounded by forests, clusters of farm buildings reminiscent of still-life elements, distant blue mountains, and vast blowing skies – provides the inspiration and central focus for Thompson’s recent works.
